Monte Carlo's Tight Streets Prepare to Write New History
The narrow streets of Monte Carlo are getting ready to write new history. The Monaco circuit is once again hosting Formula 1 drivers. This is a place where sport, history, and style come together. Today, May 24, at 4:00 PM Tbilisi time, the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying session will begin! The race will start on Sunday, May 25, at 5:00 PM Tbilisi time. Drivers will have to complete a very challenging 78 laps in total. The total length of the circuit is 3.337 kilometers.
Track Record: The fastest lap (Lap Record 1:12.909) at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix was set by Lewis Hamilton. His performance was a perfectly planned attack against time.
First Grand Prix: The Formula 1 circuit in Monaco was not built in the classic sense. The race takes place on public roads. The first official race was held in 1929, and the win went to Bugatti driver William Grover-Williams. The idea for the race came from Antony Noghès, a tobacco manufacturer, president of the Automobile Club de Monaco, and a close friend of the Grimaldi royal family. The last corner of the track (Virage Antony Noghès) is named after Antony Noghès, the founder of the Monaco Grand Prix.
What is the Monaco Track Like? The Monaco track is incredibly narrow and consists of very difficult corners. Formula 1 driver Nelson Piquet famously compared driving on the track to riding a bicycle in your living room. Despite its difficulty, almost all drivers love this challenge because it pushes them to show their best skills. It is also worth noting that overtaking on the tight streets is much harder than anywhere else – no overtakes were recorded at the 2003 Grand Prix.
